The Pandarpur Yatra is a pilgrimage to the Vithoba Temple, also known as Vitthal Rukhmini Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Krishna. Pandharpur Ashadi Ekadasi Wari Yatra has been taking place for more than 700 years. Every year, the Alandi Temple Devasthan Committee takes up a theme to send out a social message during the Wari period. Both the Sant Dnyaneshwar and Sant Tukaram Palkhi organising committees have been working on a pollution- free Wari for the last couple of years.
On their way, the pilgrims play musical instruments like veenas, mridungas, dholkis and chiplis. The pilgrims also play the traditional folk dance “fugdi” with infectious enthusiasm.
