Ugadi festival is celebrated on 28th March, 2017 which marks the first day of New Year for the Telugu community. This festival begins from the month of Chaitra. Ugadi and Gudi Padwa falls on the same day and devotees start their day by taking oil bath which is known as Abhyang and further consuming neem leaves which is a traditional ritual.

The term Ugadi is derived from the Sanskrit word Yuga which means age and Adi which means beginning. Basically Ugadi is the beginning of a new age – Kali Yuga in which we are living now. Further it is also believed that Kali Yuga began when Lord Krishna left the world. On the day Ugadi, people decorate their houses with mango leaves which is a ritual. This festival is celebrated in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
